Description
As a
result of an unstable or disruptive home life, many children find
themselves abused, neglected or abandoned, causing profound and
sometimes life altering changes that may cause dangerous patterns
of behavior. Numerous research studies indicate the strong correlation
between abused and neglected children, including, high school drop
out, juvenile delinquency, gang activity, sustained economic deprivation,
teen pregnancy and failing health.
M.S.
Youth Services identified the community need to increase the development
of pro-social behavior through life management skills and personal
growth development by creating protective factors such as bonding
with positive role models, peers, family and community members,
as well as, accepting healthy beliefs and clear standards. These
protective factors act as buffers against the risk factors facing
this population that so often leads to delinquency by creating an
environment that promotes healthily behavior and promotes pro-social
relationships with their peers, their family and the community.
Our alternative living environment offers youth safety, support
and provides a nurturing environment in which they are encouraged
to address the circumstances related to their feelings of anger,
confusion and fear.
At present,
M.S. Youth Services operates three homes in Montgomery County;
one is located in Germantown and the other two in the Rockville
area, serving a total of twelve (12) boys.
